Description
Lindsey Horan spoke about the USWNT’s enthusiastic view on Pride and Equality.
Mallory Swanson (formerly Mallory Pugh) scored twice for the United States women's national soccer team in a 4-0 win over South Korea in an international friendly match on Saturday.
Swanson returned to Dick's Sporting Goods Park, where she helped lead the Golden Eagles to a 5A state championship title her freshman year (2013) at Mountain Vista.
"At the end of the day, the most important thing was to win. However I could contribute I was going to do," Swanson said after the match. "It's so special. I had a lot of people here in the stands."
Three players on the current roster hail from Colorado: Swanson from Highlands Ranch, Windsor native and Fossil Ridge High School grad Sophia Smith, and captain Lindsey Horan from Golden.
Smith assisted on Swanson's first goal in the 34th minute.
Saturday's match was also the debut for new USWNT head coach Emma Hayes, who said all three played well in front of their home crowd.
"I get to enjoy these amazing players," Hayes said. "I just feel re-energized and I want to coach this group and they want to be coached."
