The state plans plans to transform two former senior living community buildings into transitional living homes for patients who have been discharged from higher-level mental health hospitals. But residents and city council said they were concerned about the facility's proximity to a school, since state rules would allow a small number of patients with prior sex offenses to be admitted to the facilities. Those concerns came to a head earlier this week with city council passing an ordinance requiring sex offenders to be housed further away from schools.
