Description
Arizona Republican lawmakers were successful at blocking an attempt to repeal a ban on nearly all abortions here in the state of Arizona. It does not account for rape or incest but only in the case where the mother's life is protected.
This is sending shockwaves across the state. Many are sad and angered, confused about what this means for the future abortions that they have planned in the clinics that said they've received calls from several patients worried about what the future looks like for them in the state.
Within two months, it will be illegal for a doctor to perform an abortion in Arizona, and doctors could face five years in prison if convicted.
The attorney general has already said that she will not prosecute anyone who violates this law and right now there's an attempt to get signatures so that an initiative goes on the November ballot to codify reproductive rights in the state.
Many here said this will propel them to go to the polls in November because this is an issue they care about.
