Before today, the Red Cross provided area hospitals with blood, but there wasn't a physical Red Cross space to take donations. Now, the building at Speer Boulevard and Sherman Street will fill that void. Howard Dykes is one of the center's first donors. He has been giving his blood since he was a teenager. About eight years after he started, he made an emergency donation that saved a young baby in Wyoming.
