Description
Interstate 25 reopened in Castle Pines after a truck spilled thousands of gallons of fuel Saturday morning, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).
CDOT said one lane remains closed as crews continue to clean up. The agency said drivers should plan for extreme delays along the highway and on detour routes.
South Metro Fire Rescue said crews responded at 2:26 a.m. to a rollover crash involving an overturned diesel fuel tanker semi-truck just south of Castle Pines Parkway. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
About 2,500 gallons of the truck's 9,000-gallon maximum load spilled into the ditch on the side of the interstate from multiple leaks. South Metro spokesperson Brian Willie said hazmat units were able to plug the leaks.
He said none of the spilled fuel has reached any waterways, and that crews built dikes to keep it from spreading.
Willie said an independent environmental agency is working to remove the desiel fuel from the scene.
