Description
One lane of the Dahlia Street bridge over Interstate 76 will be closed until early fall after a tractor-trailer hit it Monday afternoon, the Colorado Department of Transportation said.
The northbound lane of the bridge will be closed for repairs to girder damage caused by the hit. CDOT said the bridge is safe with the northbound lane closed.
The single lane that was closed on westbound I-76 under the bridge re-opened early Thursday morning.
CDOT said it will continue to monitor the bridge until a contract is awarded to repair it later in the spring. An exact date for reopening the northbound lane was not given.
The following detour for northbound traffic is in place:
-- East on CO 224 (74th Street)
-- North on U.S. 85
-- East on I-76
-- West on 88th Avenue to Dahlia Street
The bridge is still open to southbound traffic. Drivers are advised to drive with caution through the area.
Colorado State Patrol troopers said the crash happened around 2:35 p.m. Monday.
The interstate was closed in both directions after the crash. The eastbound lanes reopened around 5 p.m., and one westbound lane opened Monday night.
Sky9 video shows a large piece of construction equipment toppled on the interstate next to a tractor-trailer.
