Description
After several days of mild, spring-like weather, Colorado will feel more like winter on Tuesday. A cold front that arrived late Monday has brought much colder temperatures and snow back to all areas of Colorado.
Snow began falling in along Colorado's Front Range and the Denver metro area Tuesday morning and is forecasted to continue into the afternoon. Less than an inch of snow is expected to accumulate in the lower elevations, with rain showers also possible.
A Snow Squall Warning was effect until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday for I-225, I-70, I-25, I-270 near Aurora, I-76 near Lochbuie, I-25 and US-287 near Longmont, and US-85 near Fort Lupton.
The greatest travel impacts from this storm system will be in the mountains west of Denver. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning and Avalanche Warning for portions of the mountains, especially areas above 9,000 feet. Snow and blowing snow are likely with 6 to 12 inches of accumulation.
Heavy snow is expected in the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado with total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 feet and winds gusting as high as 65 mph.
