Description
For 34 years the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless has hosted the event – they read the names of 311 people who have died from last November through October this year. The crowd attending says, "We will remember," between each name.
The vigil is held on the winter solstice because it's the longest night of the year. "This is the longest night of the year, and we think that's particularly important because for people experiencing homelessness, that means that they are outside on the longest night of the year. It's often one of the colder nights of the year, though not the coldest, but it is it tends to be a relatively cold night," said Cathy Alderman with the coalition.
