Lionel Messi's Qatar World Cup jerseys are expected to break an auction record.
Messi's World Cup jerseys are now up for auction in New York and they already have a starting offer of $5.2 million.
Sotheby's says the six shirts worn by the Argentine world champion in Qatar could become the highest-value sports items in its history.
For comparison -- the auction house's Vice President Brahm Wachter says Diego Maradona's "Hand of god" jersey sold for $9.3 million last year.
And Michael Jordan's jersey from the first game of the 1998 NBA finals sold for $10.1 million.
Wachter says this collection, which will be on display until Dec. 14, is expected to break those records.
Messi announced the money raised will go to Unicas Project, a non-profit that helps children suffering from rare diseases.
