Description
Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch and Shorebird Monitoring will start their turtle patrols to get ready for the 2025 nesting season.
The patrols will start Tuesday, even though the season officially starts May 1. This is because in recent years, the first nests have been found on Anna Maria Island in April.
Wildlife experts said there were 685 nests from loggerhead sea turtles in 2024, marking a record number laid in one season. Staff documented 284 nests hatched and 20,633 hatchlings born.
