Florida's attorney general subpoenaed the popular online gaming platform Roblox Wednesday, requesting documentation of how the site markets to children, sets age-verification procedures and moderates chat rooms.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said in a release that there are "numerous concerning reports" about children being exposed to graphic or harmful material, including adults having the ability to message minors on the gaming platform.
"There are concerning reports that this gaming platform, which is popular among children, is exposing them to harmful content and bad actors," Uthmeier said. "We are issuing a subpoena to Roblox to uncover how this platform is marketing to children and to see what policies they are implementing—if any—to avoid interactions with predators."
Roblox is an online game that features millions of games and interactive online environments. The platform develops its own content, but does feature content created by users. The platform logged more than 85 million daily active users in 2024, Uthmeier said. An estimated 40% of those users are under the age of 13.
