Description
A Hernando County man who reportedly cut off his ankle monitor and fled the area before he was supposed to be sentenced for two crimes was arrested after he was found days later.
Jerae Crussell, 41, was found guilty of aggravated battery and felon in possession of a gun after he was arrested in connection to a 2022 shooting at Mermaids Lounge.
Witnesses called 911 saying a man was shot several times in the parking lot just after 2 a.m. The victim was hospitalized but recovered, according to Hernando County deputies.
In June 2022, Crussell was arrested in Pasco County as a suspect.
On Thursday, he appeared in court, and during a break, he returned home and cut his ankle monitor off, investigators said. Deputies couldn't find him, and the U.S. Marshal's task force was also aiding in the search.
On Tuesday, he was found and arrested by the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, officials said.
