A new baby giraffe named Tucker made his debut at Disney's Animal Kingdom, marking the first giraffe calf birth at the resort since 2021. Masai giraffe Tucker was born to mom Mara and dad Twiga on Feb. 13, which is very important for the conservation efforts of this endangered species. Mara joined the savanna in 2015 and this is her third time giving birth. There are only around 30,000 Masai giraffes in the world due to habitat loss and poaching threats, according to Disney wildlife experts. "Tucker’s arrival contributes to the genetic diversity and health of the Masai giraffe population, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the sight of these majestic animals towering above the savanna," a news release read. The caretakers at Disney are working around the clock to ensure both the mom and her baby are getting the best care. Tucker now joins the tower of giraffes on the savannah of Kilimanjaro Safaris at the theme park. Officials said he was standing and walking within the first hour of his life and has successfully met all his developmental milestones. Experts said there are nine subspecies of giraffes, and Masai giraffes are known for their spots with more ragged edges.
