Description
The sand of Clearwater Beach will transform into sculpted works of art in just a few days. In this year's case, sculptures will appear more "prehistoric" than in years past.
This April, the Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival will return to Clearwater Beach for the 11th time. The festival is returning with its "DinoShores: A Prehistoric Adventure in the Sand" theme, as professional sand sculptors will bring dinosaurs to life on the beach.
Here is a guide for what to look forward to:
When is it?
The festival runs from April 11 through April 27. Here are its exhibit hours:
Sunday-Thursday 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Friday & Saturday 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.
What is it?
The festival is a beach-wide celebration of Clearwater Beach featuring many sand sculptors who create and present their artwork to over 200,000 visitors per year. The sculptors collectively use 1,000 tons of sand from the beach to help raise money for community causes and educational initiatives for Pier 60’s daily sunset festival, according to the festival’s website.
What can I expect?
Visitors will stroll through a 24,000-square-foot tent filled with sand-sculpted art crafted by world-class artists as part of the festival's main attraction, the Sugar Sand Walk Exhibit.
