Description
Construction has resumed on a long-stalled bridge replacement project in St. Petersburg's Tanglewood neighborhood.
The bridge, which serves as the one way in and out of a small community of homes, has been down to one lane for years. Neighbors have been pushing for answers on when they’d see construction resume.
“The difficulty wasn’t so much that we were inconvenienced, but it’s just not knowing what was going on,” said Jack Frost, who lives nearby.
According to the City of St. Petersburg, American Empire Builders, who was awarded the bid to replace the aging bridge, defaulted, stopping work on the project while it was just 40% complete.
After going through the legal process, the city and surety company selected Lakeland-based Denson Construction in October to take over the more than $3 million job.
