After the Social Security Administration announced changes to its rules on identity verification measures, people across the country voiced concerns that they would need to verify their identities in person. Several said people with disabilities, or who lack access to a nearby administration office, may not be able to verify their identities. WBIR also received several emails from people in East Tennessee concerned that they would need to verify their identities in person to continue receiving benefits. On March 26, the Social Security Administration updated the changes it planned to make, delaying the start date of those changes and adding some exceptions to new verification requirements. The changes are intended to prevent fraud and waste, which President Donald Trump and his administration have made core goals.
