Description
A large fire at a pallet supply yard shut down part of U.S. 41 on Thursday afternoon in Tampa.
Tampa Fire Rescue crews received 911 calls just after 3 p.m. about a fire at 4801 South 50th Street, the address of a wood pallet supplier.
They arrived to "a heavy, deep-seated fire," the agency said. Plumes of black smoke could be seen from the Selmon Expressway.
Using handlines and aerial operations, firefighters got the blaze under control in just over an hour. They're still working to put out hot spots.
No injuries were reported, and investigators are still working to find out what caused the fire.
All southbound lanes of U.S. 41 were closed south of Madison Avenue/Pendola Point Road. One lane has since reopened to traffic.
