Description
A person died after getting hit by a car Wednesday morning on MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa.
It happened at approximately 7:16 a.m.
The person was running on the road, not on a designated path, when they were hit by a driver who stopped to call for help, a spokesperson for the Air Force base said.
First aid was rendered to the runner at the scene before they were taken to Tampa General Hospital. Doctors pronounced the runner dead a short time later.
Air Force law enforcement is investigating the crash as they work to notify the person's family.
MacDill confirmed that the run was not part of any official training but did not provide any further information.
10 Tampa Bay did ask if the runner was a member of the Armed Forces or a civilian. A base spokesperson says that information is withheld until 24 hours after next of kin is notified.
