Description
As the Valspar Championship kicks off, local businesses in Palm Harbor are feeling the rush.
Bruce Hershey, co-owner of Piper's Scratch Pizza Shop, has seen the impact firsthand.
"Everybody is coming, it's awesome! We've been here for four years, and it gets better and better and better," he said.
Hershey describes how the tournament brings in many visitors, some of whom make large orders at his pizza shop.
"Many times, when we have the tournaments, the conference will call us, and they'll rent these big apartments and complexes over there. Many times, we'll deliver 30, 40 pizzas at a time," he says.
Preparing for the weekend, Bruce is gearing up for even more business.
"We always double our orders for tonight. Normally, I'm not here on Wednesday nights, but I'm glad, I am, because we're much busier than last Wednesday, and we're already starting to feel it," he adds.
Down the street at Grain and Berry, owner Kirsten Lang is preparing her team for a busy weekend.
“We ramped up for the weekend. We expect a lot of people coming in,” she says.
