Florida is welcoming three new adorable panther kittens — and they're coming at the perfect time.
March is Florida Panther Awareness Month, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). During this time, researchers say they're dedicated to highlighting many of the conservation and research efforts that are helping to protect the endangered animal.
The FWC panther team was able to meet the new litter during an assessment, which they say provides valuable insight and data. The kittens, called K525, K526 and K527, are just two to four weeks old.
Their mother, FP269, had given birth to three kittens last season. But researchers say they were "predated," likely by a black bear.
"The survival rate for Florida panther kittens to make it to year one is low – only 32%," the research institute said in a Facebook post. "It’s tough being a panther; it’s even tougher being a Florida panther kitten!"
