Description
A man is dead after troopers say he drove the wrong way and crashed into two other drivers, sending them to the hospital.
It happened around 8:40 p.m. at the intersection of Belcher Road and Beecher Drive East. Florida Highway Patrol troopers said a 68-year-old Tarpon Springs man was going southbound in the northbound lanes of Belcher Road "for unknown reason" in his Toyota Tacoma.
As he was driving, a 73-year-old Tarpon Springs woman driving a Cadillac DTS and a 35-year-old Palm Harbor man driving a Mazda Protege 5 were traveling northbound on Belcher Road.
At the intersection of Beecher Drive, the 68-year-old collided first with the woman's car and then the man's, causing all three to stop in the travel lanes of Belcher Road after the collision.
All three drivers were rushed to the hospital with injuries as a result of the crash. The 68-year-old wrong way driver later died at the hospital, FHP said.
