Matt Crum wants Clearwater to be a city of its word.
"They need to do the right thing,” said Matt Crum, co-president of the FrankCrum human resources firm. “Frankly this is the point of small city county government…and they're just absent."
Over the last five years, archaeologists have found 328 graves from the St. Matthews Baptist Church Cemetery at the FrankCrum Headquarters and under Missouri Avenue. Crum says initial commitments from the city to address the grave dilemma have faltered.
"We're frustrated that…we haven't made as much progress as we thought we would have,” he said.
FrankCrum filed a lawsuit against the Clearwater Redevelopment Agency in Pinellas County Court and soon expects a judge to decide whether the CRA is responsible for removing them. Court documents say the CRA breached a 1998 development agreement, which promised the previous owner, IMR Global, that all graves had been moved from the site.
FrankCrum didn’t buy the property until 2004.
