A 63-year-old man was killed following a hit-and-run incident near Winter Haven. The hit-and-run happened around 2:29 a.m. Monday on Spirit Lake Road just north of Thornhill Road, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Despite attempts from first responders, the man died from his injuries. Right now, investigators don't have a description of the vehicle that hit the man. Preliminary details revealed the man was walking or standing in the northbound on Spirit Lake Road before he was hit. The incident shut down Spirit Lake Road for about three hours, deputies said. "The crash scene was well-lit, but the victim was wearing all-dark clothing," the agency added. Anyone with information on the hit-and-run can call PCSO Detective Lucas at 863-668-3100.
