Description
A rash of burglaries at a business complex is under investigation by the Pasco County Sheriff's Office near the New Port Richey area.
On Jan. 28, the owner of Honeybee Holistic Health said an employee called after finding evidence of a suspected break-in.
"We noticed a lot of medical supplies missing," Rachel Zepito said. "Our storage cabinets were kind of ransacked. They even went through the fridge and took all my chocolate protein shakes."
Among the other missing items: a medical bag, a vacuum and a honeybee doorknocker that was gifted by Zepito's previous landlord.
"I was telling the police officer that if you go online, we have five-star reviews," Zepito said, "We pride ourselves. There's nobody that I could think of that would want to do that or target a specific business. It looked like it was a crime of opportunity."
The family primary care office had just relocated and opened at the Millford Professional Center weeks before the burglary.
"This is my baby. I've wanted to open my practice since I was a little kid. Having that happen like right after we moved in was pretty, pretty heartbreaking." Zepito added.
In a message to tenants obtained by 10 Tampa Bay, the property manager said deputies would be patrolling the plaza area to deter problems from arising in the near future and reminded business owners to lock up before leaving.
The office manager of another business in the complex said she hopes this change will stop trespassers in their tracks.
"I hope people don't start to feel unsafe but when things like that happen, unfortunately, that's what ends up happening," she said.
