Description
An investigation is underway Thursday night into a shooting involving a Hernando County deputy which officials say began as a traffic stop.
The shooting happened just before 9:30 p.m. According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, the deputy chased after a man who ran away after being pulled over near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and South Brooksville Avenue.
The deputy eventually caught up to the man near Ellington Avenue before getting into a "physical altercation," officials say. That's when the man reportedly reached for the deputy's firearm.
The deputy then shot the man, according to the sheriff's office.
