Description
A groundbreaking "Active Assailant Mass Casualty Exercise" at St. Petersburg College's Tarpon Springs campus introduced a new element never before attempted in Pinellas County — a moving school bus.
The large-scale simulation began at a STEM fair on campus, where an "armed suspect" first targeted a crowd of students. The scenario then escalated as the suspect hijacked a school bus, leading to a dramatic intervention by law enforcement.
"It's a challenging situation. When you have a bus, it's heavy, there are kids on that bus and there is an active shooter. We got to stop it and how is that going to happen," said Captain Kim Kilian of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
