Description
The Gasparilla invasion of pirates is over, but the mark they leave behind is everlasting. Tampa Bay's timeless tradition brings in thousands of visitors every year. It has a huge impact on tourism and adults living with disabilities.
The MacDonald Training Center (MTC) has a partnership with the Moffitt Cancer Center. Christine Nammour with the post-secondary school said money from donated beads helped fund this program.
“They're going to find a career. They're finding support. A lot of individuals that we serve with disabilities face so many barriers in their life,” Nammour said.
Isabel Guzman is in the program. She sees it as a lab filled with opportunities.
This program teaches students how to meticulously clean nursing stations and sanitize patient rooms.
“They're learning about regulated medical waste, they're learning about dwell times, they're learning how to do a discharge cleaning,” Guzman said.
