Description
The victim killed in a violent series of events across South Tampa Sunday night has been identified as a member of the U.S. Air Force.
Tampa police and MacDill Air Force Base confirmed that Tech. Sgt. Richard Padilla, 37, was killed in a hit-and-run along Interbay Boulevard. A spokesperson for the 24th Special Operations Wing told 10 Tampa Bay he was out doing one of the things he loved most — running.
Padilla was assigned to the 24th Rapid Deployment squadron of the 24th Special Operations Wing, based on MacDill.
“We are deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic loss of Richie. He embodied what it meant to be a warrior,” Lt. Col. Michael Biederman, 24th RDS commander, said in a statement. “Our deepest sympathies are with Richie’s family and friends as we all mourn the loss of our teammate, mentor, and friend.”
