Crews from Hillsborough County Fire Rescue battled a two-alarm fire at the Brandon Exchange mall, which they said originated from the permanently closed Sears store. Just before 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, HCFR responded to reports of heavy black smoke pouring from the roof of the building, located on Brandon Town Center Drive. After arriving, fire officials said the roof partially collapsed as they started to fight the blaze. Crews were able to control the fire in under 40 minutes, however, dozens of firefighters spent hours working to fully extinguish the flames. No injuries have been reported in the incident. A cause of the fire is unknown at this time, though fire rescue officials say an investigation is ongoing.
