Description
While a fire gutted two mobile homes in Seffner, a Hillsborough County Fire Investigator was attacked by an individual on the scene.
Crews responded to the fire Friday morning in the area of Robson Avenue in Seffner after getting multiple calls reporting heavy smoke and flames.
The first person to arrive was the investigator who was attacked by an individual on the scene, according to a news release. The fire truck units were delayed due to the dangerous incident as the investigator deemed the area unsafe for crews to operate in.
The investigator who was "forced to protect himself" held the suspect at gunpoint until Hillsborough Sheriff's deputies arrived and secured the area.
"This incident highlights the challenges faced by first responders as they work tirelessly to protect lives and property under unpredictable and often hazardous conditions," officials said in a statement.
After, fire crews were able to put out the fire and bring it under control within a half hour. Officials said no residents were injured from the blaze.
Pictures show the mobile homes scorched and destroyed with some of the siding ripped off. They also showed thick clouds of smoke coming from one of the structures.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
