A Florida man says losing his job was devastating.
But he didn’t realize trying to file for unemployment would also be frustrating. He says he filed months ago and has yet to receive payment. That’s why he turned to us for help.
“It is horrible,” Tamas Malay said.
The past few months have not been easy for him after he says he was let go from his position with the city of Cape Canaveral.
“That was Oct. 25, and finally, when I could get on my unemployment site, and finally I filed, that was Nov. 10,” Malay said.
But now it’s the middle of January, and he showed us his file on Florida’s unemployment site. Every week, he expected to be paid, but it just says hold.
“Every single week. I drove to Titusville, back and forth, 50 miles, just to talk to one of the agents. And finally, I could talk with someone in Titusville at the Career Source place. Either way, I have to wait like between 10 and 15, sometimes 30 minutes to get a call the answer, get an answer, and for so long, nobody could answer to me anything. Why is my account on hold?” Malay wondered.
He says he finally got some answers in December when he was able to reach somebody, but after talking with them and making sure everything was in the system that needed to be, weeks have passed, and his account still says hold.
“They should have phone numbers, and they should have agents, and we should able to talk with management, supervisor or upper levels, not just somebody, one agent who could talk with if you [are] able to reach them, because every time I called in the morning from home, after like, the automatic system comes in. It shuts me off,” Malay said.
