Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed the person set to replace Marco Rubio in the U.S. Senate — Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody. Moody has a clear mission for her time in the Senate. "America first. Get it done," she said Thursday morning. Rubio is undergoing his confirmation hearing for secretary of state this week in Washington and if confirmed, his seat becomes vacant. The Florida governor has the authority to appoint someone to fill the vacancy and that person will represent the Sunshine State until the seat is up for election in 2026. “We have to deliver on the mandate that the voters gave President Donald Trump," DeSantis said earlier this week about what he was looking for. "We have got to have somebody that's going to be strong on immigration. Our voters want to see that, and not just illegal immigration by the way, making sure that these visa programs aren't being used to undermine American workers."
