A small outside fire sparked and spread to a nearby home, destroying it. The Hillsborough County dispatch center received a call about the small outside fire off New York Street in Gibsonton at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Then, additional calls told responders the fire spread to the home. Firefighters arrived within eight minutes and worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighboring houses. Rescuers were able to bring it under control within 40 minutes.
