Description
The 10 Tampa Bay team goes one-on-one with a Buccaneers player every week. In this week's edition of "The One Buc," sports reporter David Schiele speaks with safety Mike Edwards.
In 2019, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team in the midst of a rebuild, selected Edwards in the third round of the NFL draft. What made Edwards appealing was his versatility. He could play both safety positions — strong and free — and his blend of athleticism and intelligence made him a perfect fit for a defense looking to balance aggression with discipline.
Edwards won Super Bowl LV with Bucs in his second season and remained with the franchise through the 2022 season. His NFL path turned unexpectedly as he went from a starting safety to a journeyman. After playing and winning Super Bowl LVIII with the Kansas City Chiefs last season, Edwards bounced from the Buffalo Bills to the Tennessee Titans and back to the Bucs this season.
"The league will humble you," he said. "You got to stay humble. You got to stay grounded."
Since rejoining the Bucs in late November, Edwards has had eight tackles in three games, with a pass defended.
