An elderly man in Largo is now charged with first-degree murder after he bludgeoned his wife with a sledgehammer and then tried to kill himself in an attempted murder-suicide on Christmas Day. According to an amended arrest affidavit, the woman, identified by family as Lainey McPhee, died on Dec. 30, prompting police to update 78-year-old Jonathan McPhee's charges.
