Description
The holidays are looking a little different this year around the Tampa Bay area as recovery efforts continue from recent storms. That's especially true for one Tampa family who’s now homeless after their roof collapsed during storm repairs.
Hurricane Milton blew shingles off the home, and on Monday, roofers went up to replace them. But, what happened next is shocking.
“The morning of the 23rd, roofing started at like 6, 6:30 a.m.,” Victoria Sowell said. “We got back at 12 and walked in the house, and there was light coming in through the wall at the ceiling.”
That's when Sowell and her husband went into a panic.
“There was a loud crack, and the roof and the ceiling started sagging,” she said. “I started screaming like, ‘Stop, stop, stop!’ And they like came in and they went, ‘Oh my god.’”
They scrambled to take whatever they could, including some Christmas presents for their two children. But soon, the roof partially collapsed, trapping Sowell in her bathroom.
