Description
He has a famous name and a familiar story, but 81-year-old James Taylor is no musician. With four patents, he does know a thing or two about inventions and what he views as insurance injustice.
“How can you deny me when you know I’m suffering?” Taylor said.
Taylor appears to be the picture of health, but the former bodybuilder and powerlifter is battling debilitating back injuries.
“The pain brings tears to my eyes," he said.
Taylor says his Medicare Advantage insurance company refuses to pay for the surgery his doctor says is needed.
“They deny it, keep on denying it,” Taylor said.
That denial of coverage struck an emotional nerve after the shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
“It’s time to stand up. If you’re ever gonna get a result, it’s gonna be now, because now, they’re losing some of their lives," he said.
Taylor says he knows the shooting was wrong, but views suspect Luigi Mangione as a folk hero who targeted the wealthy and powerful.
“It kind of resembles like a modern-day Robin Hood. I don’t want to sound the way it’s gonna come out, but I was happy for the fact it brought the attention to the public. Now that they’ve got number one is gone over the hundreds of thousands of lives that have already been lost because of neglect," he explained.
