Description
With the future of the Tampa Bay Rays in St. Petersburg still uncertain, many are holding on to memories and literal pieces of hurricane-ravaged Tropicana Field. Finding a silver lining that’s benefitting local charities this holiday season.
It’s been a lasting image from Hurricane Milton; the dome that covered Tropicana Field for more than 30 years, tattered and gone with the wind.
Pieces of the roof came down across the community, and some later landed on eBay selling for upwards of $150 a swatch.
"What is something in life if you can't share it?" asked Neil MacDonald, an Odessa man who waves a big Rays flag from his front yard. The inside of his home is filled with Rays memorabilia, world series jerseys and more dating back to the inaugural 1998 season.
This past fall he added his largest piece of memorabilia yet, thanks to his family.
After the storm flooded their St. Pete neighborhood, Neil's son Ryan, Ryan’s girlfriend Danielle and his grandson Logan were canoeing streets to deliver water and rescue animals, when they came across the unmistakable.
A huge, feet-long piece of white tarp.
