Around 2.6 million Stanley travel mugs have been recalled in the U.S. after reports of burns caused by faulty lids. The recall was issued Thursday for all Stanley Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel travel mugs sold in the U.S. It includes all 12, 16 and 20 oz. versions of the mugs. According to federal regulators, the threads on the screw-on cap the mugs use can shrink when exposed to heat and torque (like when somebody screws or unscrews the lid), causing the lid to detach. Stanley reported 91 incidents involving the issue worldwide, including 16 in America. The company said 38 of those incidents caused burns, with 11 being serious enough to require medical attention. The double-walled mugs come from the brand that went viral on social media, causing a buying frenzy earlier this year.
