Description
Residents of the Lantern Travel Park in Hudson, have been living without electricity for more than two months following consecutive hurricanes.
Now, they face potential eviction as their landlord threatens not to renew leases unless residents make necessary repairs to pass inspections required for power restoration.
Priscilla Tobin, a long-time resident, expressed her frustration: “Why pay for money to get work done if I’m going to be evicted?”
Property Manager Elizabeth Moore insists the responsibility lies with residents to comply with county safety guidelines and requirements.
“We are giving them a notice that we are not renewing their lease. They need to take care of the packages that the county put out to make their houses safe,” Moore said. “If they do not make their houses safe by January 1st, that's when we might go through with the eviction. Because we can't keep holding up the many for the few because they don't wanna do what they're supposed to do.”
The situation remains tense as residents plan to seek legal advice and potentially fight eviction notices in court.
