Description
We are now in the final month of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season — the season officially ends on Nov. 30.
There are three different areas we are watching for a potential system to develop in the Atlantic and the one with the highest chance of formation is in the Caribbean.
Nothing has formed yet, but that could change next week. There is still too much time to give specifics on the intensity, timing or possible track of a system, but next week we could have a (weak) tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico that could potentially impact the coast.
We're keeping watch on the southwestern Caribbean Sea as a broad area of low pressure is likely to develop in the next day or two.
Gradual development is possible thereafter, and a tropical depression could form over the weekend while the system begins to drift northward or northeastward toward the central Caribbean Sea.
