Description
An 8-year-old boy was seriously hurt after getting into a crash with a Sarasota police officer while riding a dirt bike.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. Monday evening in the area of 22nd Street and Maple Avenue. Details at this time are limited, though the Sarasota Police Department said an officer was leaving the scene of a different call when the collision happened.
The child was taken to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital where officials said he underwent surgery. 10 Tampa Bay's Adaure Achumba spoke with the boy's mother, Regina Sanders, who identified the boy as 8-year-old Gerard Butler.
As of Tuesday morning, SPD said he remains under the care of medical professionals and surrounded by his family.
