Description
People in northwest and central Florida who are not near the coast could be dealing with flooded rivers following Hurricane Milton Friday.
The Category 3 storm made landfall in the Tampa area near Siesta Key on Wednesday, bringing storm surge and causing rivers to rise as it brought damaging winds inland. Several counties in the affected areas are offering sandbag stations. It is advised people bring their own shovels and, in some cases, own bags, especially if they live near a flooded river.
According to early Friday morning data from the National Weather Service, the following bodies of water are under a "major" or "moderate" flood designation:
Anclote River (Major)
Withlacoochee River (Major)
Cypress Creek (Major)
Hillsborough River (Major)
Alafia River (Major)
Little Manatee River (Moderate)
