Description
Hillsborough County deputies said two people recently stole saw palmetto berries — native plants often used in natural health remedies — from a grower in the east bay area of Tampa. Deputies arrested them in Plant City.
They say the berries are valuable on the open market, and farmers say they need the help with catching the thieves.
A new state law makes it a felony to harvest saw palmetto berries without a license. Anyone caught illegally harvesting them can face up to five years in prison.
