The main throughway on and off Anna Maria Island is back open after a hole appeared on the bridge Wednesday morning, the Florida Department of Transportation said. Recent traffic cam footage from FDOT shows that the hole appears to be patched with traffic moving freely in both directions. According to photos shared by local law enforcement on Wednesday, it appeared part of the concrete on the State Road 64/Manatee Avenue bridge was destroyed or lost, revealing the woven metal structure beneath. The photos also appeared to show the portion of the bridge may have undergone previous repairs, as a patch of darker asphalt appears where the hole is.
