Description
All eastbound lanes of Busch Boulevard at North 22nd Street are closed after a vacant commercial restaurant caught fire Tuesday evening in Tampa.
Tampa Fire Rescue crews arrived just before 7 p.m. to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof and front portion of the former Sonny's BBQ location.
"Firefighters initially entered the building but were forced to exit the structure when fire conditions rapidly deteriorated, and the roofing structural components of the restaurant began to collapse," Tampa Fire Rescue wrote in an update.
A second alarm was triggered for backup and firefighters battled flames using multiple hoses and an aerial ladder truck. The fire was under control about an hour later.
