Description
A situation involving a person who barricaded themselves inside a Pasco County home Friday has come to an end, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies responded around 9:30 a.m. to Fairmount Drive in Holiday after someone reported that 57-year-old Eric Dykstra, a man they had a no-contact order against, was inside their home.
According to the sheriff's office, Dykstra went to the home after being released from the Pasco County Detention Facility on Feb. 21. He had been incarcerated since December for charges related to theft and domestic battery.
Dykstra used to share the home with the victim but was there by himself on Friday morning. The victim spotted Dykstra on their home security camera.
When deputies arrived, they said Dykstra fired a shot inside the home and made threats. That's when deputies assumed a tactical position and called for assistance.
Deputies said Dykstra also strategically placed gas and propane tanks in an effort to deter them.
After an hours-long standoff, Dykstra exited the home and was taken into custody without incident.
Gulfside Elementary School, located near the neighborhood on Anclote Boulevard, was on a controlled campus status.
