Description
A Pinellas Park man is facing first-degree murder charges in connection to two fentanyl overdose deaths in April 2022.
Police say they began investigating after 32-year-old Kane Mitchell and 31-year-old Luke Comiskey, two Irish men, were found dead on April 23, 2022, at their apartment on Grand Avenue in Pinellas Park.
A medical examiner's toxicology report confirmed that both men died as a result of a fentanyl overdose, according to the department.
"Investigators determined that the fentanyl responsible for this tragedy was sold by James Peoples III," police said in a news release.
Peoples, 33, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
"The devastating consequences of fentanyl abuse are clear in this heartbreaking incident. Our agency and city stand unwavering in its commitment to tackle the scourge of fentanyl overdoses head-on," Pinellas Park Police Chief Adam Geissenberger said. "We will pursue justice relentlessly and continue our efforts to safeguard our community from the perils of this deadly substance."
