Description
Travelers to and from Tampa International Airport are facing a wave of cancellations and flight delays as wintry storms in other states are holding up or temporarily shutting down major airports.
As of this writing, TPA reported 112 delayed flights and 37 cancellations, according to data from FlightAware. The data also shows that 27 of those canceled flights came from two major airlines: Southwest Airlines with 20 flights and United Airlines with eight flights.
An airport spokesperson said the United cancellations are related to the Boeing 737 Max 9 grounding following a mid-air blowout of a cabin panel in an Alaska Airlines plane earlier this month.
Many of the canceled flights were also heading for cities impacted by the storms, including Chicago, Denver and Newark.
According to the Associated Press, forecasters are also warning that rapid bursts of heavy snow and wind could cause drastic and sudden drops in visibility in eastern Pennsylvania and parts of northern New Jersey and Delaware with some "near whiteout conditions" possible.
