Someone could begin 2024 on a very high note by winning Powerball's $810 million jackpot for the lottery's drawing on New Year's Day. The jackpot surged to the sixth-largest in game history after nobody won the jackpot Saturday, although players in Colorado, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and West Virginia all took home $1 million or more. At the time of the drawing Monday, the jackpot rose to an even higher estimated $842 million. The lottery game hasn't seen a jackpot winner since Oct. 11, when a single ticket in California took home the $1.76 billion prize. The prize is currently the fourth Powerball jackpot to topple the half-a-billion dollar mark this year.
